Welcome to this special and shortest-ever edition of Home & Away. I know I said there wouldn’t be a newsletter this week, but I decided to go back on my word for two reasons.
First, I wanted to thank you all for reading what I have to say every week as often and as thoroughly as you do. Our community has grown steadily in number. And I appreciate the feedback, be it positive or less-than-positive.
And second, a suggestion. We might all benefit from making our Thanksgiving table something of a politics-free zone this year. Doing so may be good for what Jews describe as “shalom bayyit” or peace in the home. Doing so may also be good for peace of mind, as the election campaign took its toll, as did the results for close to half the country. Enjoying turkey and stuffing should take precedence over debating nominations and tariffs. The same holds for Gaza. Call it the Thanksgiving principle.
