More than a little irony that this action comes so soon after Trump pardoned Honduras former president Juan Orlando Hernandez who was serving a prison sentence for drug trafficking. I suggest that Maduro contact Hernandez and find out what it takes to get a pardon. A suck up letter to Trump for sure. But how much must be paid to folks in Trump's orbit who will grease the wheels? How many of Trump's crypto coins must be purchased? How much must be invested in various Trump family ventures? With Trump, when he sees a way to make a buck, anything is possible.
I think this is a well coordinated attempt to enforce the embargo on Venezuela and limit the support of Russia and China in the region. Basically, this is another Global Conflict the purpose of which is to bring about a regime change and provoke Russia and China to react in a fae away region in order to saps their military presence in the Carribian.
I expect a military resistance, however, it is also true that this Madiro operation was well coordinated with the opposition in the country. This means a civil war unless all parties sit on a round table to discuss the future of the country and negotiate their Socio-economic structure with the US. Obviously, I expect Condtitutional changes in Venezuela and it is in the interest of Venezuela to bring about this change peacefully.
With respect to the war in Ukraine with Russia, I think it will be intimidating to Putin more than helping him as BRICS is loosing ground and support in the Americas. This is going to be the long term impact on Putin in my view and if the transition in Venezuela remains peacefull, then, this will be a victory for Trump's administration (the first since his election).
I’m with Richard Haas, greatest risk is Russia, China deeming Venezuela action gives them license to take over countries in their proximity. A more dangerous world of 3 fiefdoms (my term).
